Start with the time you have and the type of travel days you enjoy.
Choose a few anchors
Write down your arrival point, departure point and fixed commitments. Then choose a small number of places that match your interests. The Ministry of Tourism destination directory is a starting point for researching regions, not a guarantee of current transport links.
Allow for transfer days
Do not count an intercity move as a full sightseeing day. Check a dated transport option before fitting activities around it. Keep a flexible block near the end if a connection is important.
Make the plan usable
Store accommodation addresses and booking details offline. A shorter route with a spare afternoon is often easier to adapt than a list that relies on every transfer going exactly to plan.
