Central town: Rikitikitavi and Hotel Old Cinema

Rikitikitavi stands on Riverside Road and combines a small hotel with a terrace restaurant overlooking the river. Its official room descriptions include double, twin, family and split-level superior options. For travellers sharing a room, compare the beds and layout rather than relying on a category name. Hotel Old Cinema’s own booking page places it in the historic part of Kampot and lists a swimming pool, restaurant, garden and air conditioning. It is a useful alternative to investigate if a pool matters alongside access to town. For either property, request the position of the exact room and ask about stairs if mobility is a concern.

Upstream: Sabay Beach

Sabay Beach explicitly describes its location as upstream from Kampot town. Treat it as a river-based stay and build transport into your evening plans. It suits a shortlist where the setting and time at the property carry more weight than walking between central restaurants. Ask which room gives the view in the photographs, how far it is from reception and whether the approach is straightforward with luggage. A property name containing Beach does not establish an open-sea swimming location.

Khmer houses or garden bungalows: Champa Lodge and Champa Village

These sister properties offer two distinct formats. Champa Lodge describes three Khmer houses containing five private rooms, bookable individually or as complete houses. Champa Village offers eight bungalows with a garden, river and pool setting. Their FAQ places both about five kilometres from the centre. Whole-house arrangements are worth examining for friends or extended families, but establish which spaces remain private and whether bedrooms communicate internally. Specify the property name on your transfer booking; similar branding should not obscure a different arrival point.

Social travel: Karma Traders Kampot

Karma Traders’ official channels present a hostel, rooftop bar, restaurant, live-music venue and swimming pool. That combination belongs on a social traveller’s shortlist. Before committing, check the room types currently available and ask which nights have events. Someone hoping to meet other guests and someone needing an early bedtime can reasonably make different decisions about the same property. Compare total occupancy, bathroom arrangements, storage and cooling for the room you intend to reserve.

Private pools and more space: Amber Kampot

Amber Kampot advertises a riverside resort across from the town centre, with private-pool villa accommodation, dining and a spa. Its two-bedroom category has separate en-suite bedrooms and shared living space, making it relevant to families or two couples who want a base for time together. Confirm the precise bedding, occupancy and any additional-person costs. If children are travelling, ask about barriers and direct bedroom access to the pool before relying on photographs to assess the layout.

For a stay in pepper country: La Villa de La Plantation

La Plantation’s farm visitor page also identifies La Villa de La Plantation as accommodation on a pepper plantation. This is a different proposal from sleeping in central Kampot: choose it when the agricultural setting itself motivates the stay. Before booking, establish the room or villa arrangement, meals, transfers and what access to the farm is included. Ask how evenings work once day visitors leave and whether you need to reserve activities separately.

How to compare these options fairly

Request quotes for identical dates, guest numbers and meal arrangements. A town room with inexpensive evening transport can suit a different budget from a remote bungalow once every journey is included. Clarify breakfast, taxes, cancellation conditions, late arrival and pickup location. For work, ask for a recent internet test from the intended room rather than a general Wi-Fi claim. For a week or more, compare laundry, shaded sitting space, fridge access and housekeeping. These are operator-documented shortlist entries, not inspected-room ratings or a ranking of service quality.
