Where to stay in Siem Reap: markets, Wat Bo, the Royal District and quieter bases
Siem Reap is easier to enjoy when your hotel and your evening plans fit together. Choose a neighbourhood for the time outside Angkor as carefully as you choose the temple itinerary.

The Old Market, Pub Street and adjoining streets form a useful orientation point for visitors who want many meals and short outings close to their room. Onederz Siem Reap is a verified central option with easy access to these landmarks. This area makes sense when you plan to return independently from dinner or meet other travellers. Ask which side of the building the room faces and how late shared spaces operate. Central convenience and quiet sleep depend on the actual property and room, not only on distance from the market.
Wat Bo: an east-of-the-river base
Wat Bo is worth comparing when you want another part of town as your everyday base. Babel Guesthouse has a Wat Bo Road address and provides a concrete starting point for accommodation searches there. Plan a small walking radius around any candidate property: breakfast, a convenient shop and an evening meal. Then check the bridges and roads you will use to reach the centre. A neighbourhood can feel close on a map while the practical route from a particular entrance is less direct than expected.
The Royal District and Old French Quarter
Shinta Mani Angkor and FCC Angkor by Avani are named options in the Royal District or Old French Quarter area. Raffles Grand Hotel dโAngkor adds a heritage-hotel choice near the Royal Gardens. These addresses are useful for travellers who want a hotel-oriented stay while retaining access to the central city. Make the comparison at room level: terrace, garden, adjoining rooms and step-free access differ between properties. A quiet-looking streetscape does not establish that every room at every hotel is equally quiet.
Vihear Chin and a smaller-hotel stay
Baby Elephant Boutique Hotel lists its address in Vihear Chin, providing a different option south of the busiest central visitor streets. For this sort of location, decide how often you expect to walk and how often you are happy to take a short ride. The benefit of a smaller hotel is strongest when you will actually spend some time there. It may make sense for a slower week with a class, pool time or work between outings, rather than a schedule that keeps you away from breakfast until bedtime.
A river or garden property beyond your walking circuit
Jaya House River Park is another property to map when comparing boutique settings. More generally, a hotel outside your preferred restaurant circuit can still be an excellent choice if its surroundings are the main attraction and transfers are straightforward. Ask how you return after dinner, whether hotel transport runs at the hours you need and where an independent driver should collect you. For a family, the ability to return easily for a midday break may be more valuable than a slightly shorter first journey toward Angkor.
Think in two maps
Your first map is the everyday city: hotel, restaurants, shops and evening activities. Your second is the excursion map: Angkor, any countryside outing and Siem Reap Angkor International Airport. Do not choose an ordinary city hotel on the assumption that it will make every temple walkable. Likewise, do not use directions to the former airport to estimate a transfer to SAI. One clear transport plan for each kind of day is more useful than searching for an address that is close to everything.
