Five days around Kampot and Kep: river, pepper country and the coast
An adaptable route with two complementary bases. Keep the first nights in Kampot for town and countryside, then move to Kep for seafood, gardens and an optional Rabbit Island crossing.
UpdatedDestination and operator facts checked against the linked sources. Planning advice is editorial; rooms, availability, menus and operating arrangements must be confirmed for the intended dates.

This is a suggested sequence rather than a fixed timetable. Choose a central Kampot room if you want easy dinner walks, or a river property if you expect to spend more time at the accommodation. In Kep, decide whether the beach, garden, pool or food area should shape your stay. Travellers arriving late should add a night instead of compressing the first full day. If you prefer unpacking once, use one town as a base and accept the extra road journeys.
Day one: settle into Kampot
Leave the arrival day light. Check in, take a short walk through the central streets and find a comfortable place beside the river. A town pepper shop can introduce the ingredient without committing the entire afternoon to transport. Use dinner to understand distances and decide how you want to spend the next two days. Buy any small practical items you need while you are in town, then confirm the pickup arrangements for your main excursion.
Day two: pepper country at a human pace
Make one farm visit the anchor of the day. La Plantation advertises guided introductions to its pepper and other crops; confirm the current programme directly. Allow room for the tasting and any meal you reserve. Discuss an additional countryside stop with your driver only if the location and available time make sense. A salt-field or cave visit should add something distinct to the day rather than becoming another rushed photograph. Return early enough to enjoy a different meal in Kampot.
Day three: choose the river or Bokor
For a water-based day, SUP Asia offers instruction and guided river outings; its river-exploration information lists support equipment including life jackets and dry bags. Choose a session appropriate to experience and conditions, and keep the rest of the day easy. For a mountain day, arrange transport to Bokor and leave enough time for changing weather and the return journey. Combining a substantial paddle session, the mountain and several countryside stops would remove the unhurried quality that makes this itinerary useful.
Day four: move to Kep and follow the food
Transfer to your Kep accommodation with time to settle in. Use the afternoon for the setting you booked: garden, pool or an easy coastal outing. Make crab with Kampot pepper the centre of lunch or dinner, agreeing portion size and pricing before ordering. If you want an island visit the next day, establish the actual departure point and return arrangements now. Keep a mainland alternative in mind so poor sea conditions do not leave a blank day.
Day five: island or hillside
Choose Koh Tonsay if conditions and boat arrangements suit your group. Carry a small day bag and leave margin before onward travel. Otherwise, ask your host about a suitable national-park walk, take a slower coastal day or enjoy a longer lunch. If you want to sleep on Rabbit Island, extend the itinerary and allow a mainland buffer before a time-sensitive departure. The overnight experience deserves more than being squeezed into a final morning.
Adapt it for children, work or a longer stay
With children, reduce transfers and alternate outings with familiar accommodation time. For a working visit, protect whole work blocks rather than expecting to fit calls into a countryside journey. For a week or more, add a day to each base before adding another destination. You can then repeat the places you enjoyed and explore food, neighbourhoods or river life more naturally. Keep the sequence flexible: the best day for water or mountain views may not be the one printed in the original plan.
